About MARWAN CHAMAA
Marwan Chamaa is a Beirut-born, German-raised, U.S.-based artist whose practice spans painting, collage, mixed media, writing, and experimental work. Shaped by a life lived between Beirut, Munich, New York, and Washington, DC, his work reflects a
sustained engagement with global culture, consumerism, language, and memory, filtered through a distinctly regional sensibility.
Influenced early on by the intersection of art and commerce, Chamaa’s formative years were marked by exposure to advertising, mass-produced imagery, and popular culture.
His artistic language evolved from abstraction into a signature fusion of pop aesthetics, layered surfaces, and symbolic references drawn from media, architecture, and everyday objects.
Across decades, his work has remained fluid rather than fixed, continually absorbing new contexts, technologies, and cultural crosscurrents.
Educated in graphic design, advertising, and fine arts at the American University of Beirut, Beirut University College (LAU), and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, Chamaa developed a practice that bridges fine art and design thinking.
His work resists linear narratives, instead presenting scenes where time, place, and meaning overlap inviting viewers into layered visual worlds that reflect both personal experience and collective contemporary life.
