About JAMES BOND

Born in South Africa and naturalized French for over four decades, James Bond pursued his studies in Paris, where he lived and worked during the early years of his career. In 1986, he relocated to the United States with his family, marking the beginning of an international life shaped by both professional and artistic exploration.

James works primarily in watercolor and oil, with a strong preference for painting en plein air. He is also passionate about capturing the vitality of everyday life through street-scene sketches created with ink and watercolor. His artistic development has been enriched through study with Christine Lashley of the American New Impressionist movement, including immersive painting residencies at Château La Napoule in Mandelieu, France, and at Tenuta di Spannocchia in Tuscany.

He has further refined his practice through masterclasses with internationally renowned watercolorists David Taylor of Australia and Joseph Zbukvic of Croatia, painting in both New York State and Virginia.

Today, James and his wife divide their time between Washington, D.C., and Lyon, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, architecture, and atmosphere of both continents.
