About ANNA KATALKINA
Anna Katalkina was born and raised in the historic center of Saint Petersburg, where the city’s architectural and cultural heritage
shaped her visual sensibility. After living in London and Birmingham, Alabama, she has been based in McLean, Virginia since
2001, while maintaining regular ties to Paris, Brittany, and London.
Anna began painting in her teens and received formal training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Corcoran College of Art and Design, the studio of Maroger technique painter Robert White, and through workshops at the Grand Central Atelier and the New York Academy of Art. Her practice centers on contemporary still life, employing a technique inspired by the Old Dutch Masters, which builds luminous, finely worked surfaces through multiple layers of translucent glazing. Often small in scale, her paintings subtly incorporate humor and invite close viewing.
Anna's work has been exhibited in the Washington, DC area, Annapolis, and Neuilly. Her solo exhibition Candy and Mementos at
Touchstone Gallery received critical attention from The Washington Post, and in 2025 she was selected for the multi-venue Survey of the Women Artists of the DMV. Her work is held in private collections in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
She is a member of the Arts Club of Washington.
